It’s blue, it’s big it’s… a lake?

I can’t believe how big and how blue the Lake is. We seen the beach - with its ‘waves’ (much like the sound.) Now, we know, I’m a purist and I don’t consider the sound the beach, but it is close and so is this.

I’ve spent much time today marveling at the lake. The rest of the time has pretty much been spent driving or wandering Milwaukee. We’ve looked at the art museum. Nice collection of Georgia O’Keefe and very nice sampling of art through time and place. It was surprisingly big. It also has “wings” that move to adjust for light. It’s a sight to see, but I can’t help but think it is some silly architect’s “great” idea. But recent experience may have me biased.

I declined the Harley Museum. If we had been in the neighborhood, I would have done the Harley factory tour but it’s way north. We looked at the pier, but didn’t walk it. They had a festival going on today and we were not feeling social enough. . We did walk through the public market (much like Quincy Market, but smaller), browsed some shops and went to the Domes.

The Domes are kind of a hoot. They are advertised like these huge, modern things. They are circa 1960 - kept up, but definitely dated. They are 7 stories, but they feel smaller. There are three, connected by a hallway like building. Each dome houses an eco system walk thru terrarium. One is tropical. We saw star fruit trees, and banana trees (with banana’s), a pepper plant. That was pretty neat. One is desert. I liked that one, as most cacti and arid plant life I’ve never seen. The last was the “show” dome. It was a nice garden.

A fun leisurely day, though I’m afraid not too much to write about really. I am about ready to be home. In our travels we saw a great 1950s lounge sign “Lulu’s Lounge” But I couldn’t get the picture.

  1. There are lakes and there are lakes. Some lakes are almost like oceans; they just need a bit of salt! Kayaking on Lake Powell gave me a true appreciation of the power of current on a lake.

It's funny how a little thing like seeing that sign, Lulu's Lounge can make you long for home. They miss you too I'm sure!
