Today we’ve traveled the length of the state, West to East. Of course, we have not done this in a straight line. We’ve driven on every kind of road from Interstate to county to… other? I think I can speak for both of us when I say, we’re exhausted. Funny how when you do little, you can be tired.
That being said, it’s not like ALL we did was drive. We got lost in Eu Claire. No easy task really, the place is not that big, but we managed. We saw Paul Bunyan’s logging camp. Okay, it probably wasn’t REALLY Paul Bunyan’s, that was just its name, but it was a recreation. It was really rather interesting. Bunk house, blacksmith, mess hall. I would never have made it. The work looks brutal and to do it in the winter… I shudder to think.
I also can’t imagine traveling out here in covered wagon heading west… or clearing the forest. It’s awe inspiring to thing it. It is all beautiful country side. I’ve seen more butterflies flying free here than I think I have in the butterfly houses back home. We’ve also seen two bald eagles and two cranes out in the wild farmland here.
We are now in Appleton, WI and have surprisingly found one of the best Greek restaurants we’ve ever been to. That was pretty unexpected.
Oh, I almost forgot (I’m pretty tired today) another highlight: We were traveling down this very rural state road, past farm and farm and farm (a two lane road) and we round the corner and I’m expecting the up coming town to be an other intersection and not much else, and here this real little town. But that’s not the highlight. The highlight was this great wooden carved Viking sculpture.
